Q&A

  • I'm vegan - is Derma's skin care vegan?

Yes, the vast majority of our products are 100% vegan and we are in the process of getting them certified by the Vegan Society, so you never have to be in doubt.
In some of our products, however, we utilize the good properties of beeswax (Cera Alba), wool fat from sheep (Lanolin) and honey (Mel) and these are therefore not vegan.

See the list of ingredients on the back of the products after Cera Alba, Lanolin and Flour. The suppliers have signed that no animals are harmed during the extraction of these ingredients. We only use vegetable glycerin extracted from plant oils, e.g. coconut or palm oil.

The following Derma products contain ingredients extracted from animals:
• Derma Man Mud wax contains beeswax and lanolin

  • Does Derma use animal testing / testing on animals?

No, of course not. At Derma we do not use animals to test our products, and we never have.
Since March 2013, the EU has banned all forms of animal testing for the development and production of cosmetic products. That is why it has become illegal to write 'not tested on animals' and 'cruelty free' on the packaging. This applies to all products produced in the EU. In other countries/parts of the world, the legislation is and can be different.
Experiments with algae and invertebrates
The ban on animal experiments also applies to fish, but not algae or invertebrates, e.g. daphnia.

  • Why does the color of your products vary?

Natural raw materials may vary slightly in color depending on harvest and season, and therefore there may also be a slight color difference from product to product.
We use natural oils, which can vary in color depending on harvest, season, etc. Derma's products therefore appear with the color that nature has given them. And since very few raw materials are naturally white, Derma's products are not completely white either.

  • Why do your organic products change color over time?

Some consumers find that the color of our organic products changes over time. This is because the organic raw materials can change color when they come into contact with oxygen, and unfortunately there is not much that can be done about that. The color changes, but this is not because the product has gone bad.
A natural alternative
We have also discovered that our preservative also changes color over time, so we are in the process of finding an alternative. The preservative works as it should, only the color changes.

  • Why do your products smell?

There is a big difference in how people perceive smells, and some users find that our products leave an unfamiliar scent on the skin.
Since there is no perfume in our products, they will have a natural scent from the raw materials that the products contain. Of course, we try to choose fragrance-free raw materials.

  • What is an airless container?

An airless container is airtight. The smart thing about storing the products in this way is that the contents never come into contact with the air, and therefore the risk of contamination with microorganisms is significantly reduced. This means that the need to add preservatives is correspondingly less when the product is in an airless container.
How it works
When you pump out the product, a vacuum is created in the container so that the contents are almost sucked out. It can be a bag that shrinks when the contents are pressed out, or the container can be equipped with a piston that automatically moves upwards as the contents are removed.

  • Are Derma's skin care products chemical-free?

The word chemistry is used regularly in our everyday life and is often perceived negatively for health and the environment in connection with dangerous and effective chemicals such as cleaning agents and pesticides.
But everything we surround ourselves with is really chemistry. It is, for example, chemical processes in plants that form the natural oils that we use in Derma's products. Everything that takes place inside the body is chemistry, for example enzymes in digestion or reactions in the muscle cells that cause the muscles to contract.
Therefore, chemistry is not necessarily negative. It is important to distinguish between chemical substances that have a beneficial effect and substances with an undesirable effect. You should also take the concentration into account, for example water and table salt are chemicals, but it can be dangerous to consume in large quantities.
Substances with unwanted effects can, for example, be allergenic, carcinogenic or hormone-disrupting. The vast majority of Derma's products are certified by the Nordic Ecolabel, AllergyCertified and recommended by Asthma Allergy Nordic, and are therefore free of unwanted ingredients.

  • Do the creams penetrate the body?

The skin is our largest organ, and some of the things it comes into contact with are able to penetrate the skin and all the way into the body. This also applies to ingredients in skin products, so it matters for your health that the content is in order.
If you want to take your health into account, it is a good idea to choose products that, like Dermas, are certified by both the Swan, AllergyCertified, Ecocert/COSMOS and recommended by Asthma Allergy Nordic. Then you are sure that all ingredients in the product have been reviewed by experts and meet the strict requirements of the labeling schemes with regard to both the environment and health.

  • Can I use skin care from Derma when I am breastfeeding or pregnant?

Some of the ingredients in skin care products penetrate the body, and therefore they can affect your own health as well as your fetus and the breast milk of your baby.
The best advice we can give is to use as few products as possible during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and the ones you do use should be chosen carefully.
If you want to take your and your child's health into account, it is a good idea to choose products that, like Derma, are certified by both the Swan, AllergyCertified, Ecocert/COSMOS and recommended by Asthma Allergy Nordic. Then you are sure that all ingredients in the product have been reviewed by experts and meet the strict requirements of the labeling schemes with regard to both the environment and health.

Q10:「Derma
